Hummingbirds are some of the most interesting animals you can find out there in nature. Of all the birds on our beautiful planet, these odd creatures have managed to figure out how to hover and even fly backwards. Their wings flap at an incredible rate of 70 beats per second, which means it’s the roughly 1,300 beats per minute that creates the distinctive humming noise you hear when they fly by!

With all that work it’s no surprise that these avian dynamos have a metabolism that isn’t matched by any other bird in the world! They constantly need to eat food to maintain that fast-paced energy. Whether it be from local bird feeders or the nutrient-rich pollen from flowers, the little animals are always searching for something to keep them aloft!

So when a flock of hummingbirds came across a man holding out a red solo cup, they were naturally a bit wary. It could be a predator of some sort, but he seemed friendly enough. So one hummingbird took the lead, landed on the man’s hand, and began to drink a concoction made especially for the little bird.

Mixing 1 cup of sugar with 4 cups of water, he managed to make a feast for the birds. And once all of the other birds saw that everything was okay, they began to flock around the red cup as if it were a beautiful bouquet of flowers! Luckily, the man behind the camera thought to use the slow-motion feature, which really helps to show off how incredible these creatures really are!

Please SHARE this beautiful video if you can’t wait until these little baby birds are back again in the spring!
